Do your kids love science, but you shudder at the idea of gathering supplies, turning your kitchen into a lab, and juggling toddlers while directing future “mad scientists”? Does science get “rescheduled” for tomorrow — again and again and again? I confess. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt. While I love science and the multitude of ways it can teach us about God and his miraculous creation, I dreaded teaching it in my own home. I have a solution for us both. Let me teach your child science at Summit Academy! In my Science Explorers (K-2nd) and Science Units (3rd-5th) classes, we learn about science in a hands-on, get messy, ask questions and make connections kind of environment. Here are some of the great activities we do in my class:
Past students have exclaimed science is their favorite class. Awesome!
Watching kids light up with interest in science and ask “what happens if” is an incredible experience for me and an honor. Parents share that their younger students have said, “I learned about that!” when a high school age sibling discusses their science school work. They are remembering and building upon a foundation of basic science knowledge that will help them in their future studies. I will encourage your student’s desire for science and you can keep your home and kitchen a little less crazy! — Amanda Hall, Loganville Instructor
